Co-authoring a post

Pro, Business and Enterprise publishers can write a post with other members. The lead invites up to 4 co-authors by username on a draft, and for each one chooses what they can do and their share of what the post earns (the lead keeps at least 10%).

Access levels

  • Can view: they read the draft before it's published (read-only), to review it and send you their comments. The share can be anything from 0%: a reviewer can be credited without a share.
  • Can view and edit: they also edit the draft's title and text, from Read the draft / Open the draft on their invites page. Their save goes straight into the draft; if you have the draft open, the editor warns you before you save over their changes. Each co-author who edits gets at least 5%.
  • Either way, you keep publishing, the address, topics, picture and video, the split and the invitations. Nothing about the post or its co-authors changes once it's published.

Accepting means agreeing. The invitation arrives in the bell and by email and opens a page that shows who invited you, the title and cover, your access in plain words (what you can and can't do), your share and how it's paid, the credit, that the lead keeps publishing control, and how to leave. Accept and agree records the terms you saw (with the date and the terms version); the lead's panel then shows "Accepted on" that date. Decline says no. To accept you need a publishing account (Free Basic or above), because your share is paid to a bank account.

Changing it later (while it's a draft): the lead can change a co-author's access or share. Less access applies at once and the co-author is told. More access, or a different share, is sent to them to agree on the same page; until they do, the terms they agreed to stay in force. Declining a change keeps the old terms.

Leaving and removal: a co-author can Leave from their invites page before the post is published, and the lead can remove a co-author or withdraw an invite before publishing. Either way the credit and the share end, and the other person is told. Invites still waiting at publishing expire.

Invites sent before access levels existed keep what they had: those co-authors are credited and paid but don't see the draft, until the lead offers them access and they agree. Gifts on the post are split in the agreed percentages; sessions stay personal to each author. See Co-authoring.
